Social Work Master of Social Work – Online

About us

Social Work has a long and rich tradition at ²ÝÁñ¶ÌÊÓƵ State; we offered our first social work course in 1875 and awarded our first Master's degree in 1923. Accredited in 1919, ²ÝÁñ¶ÌÊÓƵ State is the country's oldest continuously accredited social work program in a public university.

More than 9,000 alumni serve as leaders and change agents across the United States working as direct practitioners, administrators, evaluators, and analysts in a wide range of public, private, and government agencies.

The MSW program prepares graduates for advanced social work practice. The program consists of three principal parts:

  • Through the Foundation Curriculum students master the theoretical knowledge, professional values, and core competencies common to all social work practice.
  • The Advanced Practice is highly applied and focuses on acquiring expertise as a master's prepared social worker in one of several practice areas.
  • The extensive field practicum experiences integrate theory and both foundation and advanced practice and provides highly mentored opportunities in which students further refine their skills as professional social workers.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to visit the or email us at msw@osu.edu to find out whether their program of interest is available in their home state. Please check back often, as the College and University are aggressively pursuing authorization in all 50 states.
