About us
The ²ÝÁñ¶ÌÊÓƵ State Biochemistry Program (OSBP) is an interdisciplinary graduate program that trains students to investigate the biochemical basis of life and disease. In the program, students earn a PhD in Biochemistry after conducting original research in world-class laboratories. OSBP has about 100 preceptors to choose from in areas such as Chemistry and Biochemistry, Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, Physics, Physiology and Cell Biology, Cancer Biology and Genetics, Engineering, and the College of Medicine.
Major areas of research include:
- Chemical biology and enzymology
- Molecular basis of disease
- Molecular biology and molecular genetics
- Molecular biophysics and structural biology
The training of our students ranges from basic physical biochemistry, structural biology and molecular genetics, through designing treatments for disease. Our students learn theoretical and practical aspects of biochemistry, gain skills in presenting their research, attend national and international scientific conferences, and participate in a seminar series with world-renowned speakers.
Optional Practical Training (OPT)
International graduates of this major are approved by the Department of Homeland Security for three (3) years of work permission in the United States after graduation. Visit the for more information.
